What is a Hip-to-Gable loft conversion?
A hip-to-gable loft conversion replaces the sloping “hip” side of your roof with a vertical gable wall. This creates significant extra floor space and headroom, usually without changing your home’s footprint. It’s a great alternative where adding dormers or extending sideways isn’t ideal.
Because you’re extending the internal volume rather than footprint, hip-to-gable conversions often deliver higher usable floor area per cost compared to some dormers — this can translate into a strong uplift in sale value.
